Azerbaijan has extradited a Turkmen citizen wanted internationally, APA reports, citing the Press Service of the Prosecutor General's Office.
According to the statement, the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan granted a request from the Prosecutor General's Office of Turkmenistan for the extradition of Dovletgeldi Nursakhedovich Bashimov, a Turkmen citizen born in 1979, for criminal prosecution.
Bashimov was wanted internationally on charges of illegally acquiring, possessing and transporting potent substances that are neither narcotic drugs nor psychotropic substances for the purpose of sale, allegedly committed by a group of persons acting in prior conspiracy in Turkmenistan.
He was located and detained in Azerbaijan in March 2026, and a pre-trial detention measure was imposed.
In accordance with the Convention on Legal Assistance and Legal Relations in Civil, Family and Criminal Matters of January 22, 1993, a decision was made to extradite the accused. He was subsequently handed over to the competent authorities of Turkmenistan under the escort of a special convoy of the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice of Azerbaijan.
