Azerbaijani and Russian presidents hold bilateral meeting in Sochi

APA reports that the bilateral relations and situation in the Caucasus were discussed at the meeting. Dmitry Medvedev said that they would exchange view on development tendency of the situation in the region: “We are closely linked with the Caucasus region and we can’t remain indifferent to the developments in this region”.

Medvedev highly-assessed the meeting of the presidents of the three counties on the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict: “Such meetings are held regularly, there are progresses and problems as well, but the dialog is significant and I am sure that such relations will continue”.

Russian President said that the development directions of relations with Azerbaijan would be assessed at the meeting. He expressed satisfaction with the results of cooperation between the two countries last year.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev agreed with the opinion that the intensive character of relations gave an opportunity to strengthen mutual cooperation in all directions: “Last year was very successful, we strengthened the mutual cooperation and the rise in trade turnover amounts to tens percents”.

Azerbaijani President thanked his Russian counterpart for his efforts towards the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict: “As you mentioned correctly, there were both hopeful moments and moments increasing the pessimism. But your efforts increase the optimism”.

Ilham Aliyev also thanked Medvedev for his support to Azerbaijan’s candidacy to UN Security Council’s membership: “In the next two years we will continue our close mutual activity in the UN Security Council and try to meet the expectations of 155 countries which supported us”.
