Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry: “Azerbaijan continued its active participation in global and regional organizations and effective cooperation with them last year”

The ministry said that last October Azerbaijan won the votes of 155 countries and was elected the non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2012-2013. “This victory was one of the biggest achievements of Azerbaijani diplomacy and could be accepted as the brilliant indication of Azerbaijan’s growing influence in the world. Azerbaijan is the second post-Soviet country (first in the South Caucasus and Central Asia) becoming the non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. The non-permanent membership of Azerbaijan in the UN Security Council will last from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2013. Azerbaijan will chair the Security Council for two times in 2012 and 2013 in accordance with the alphabetical list”.

Azerbaijan became the member of the Non-Aligned Movement in this organization’s Ministerial Conference in Bali, Indonesia last year. Azerbaijan was supported by the organization’s 118 members and it is their confidence in Azerbaijan that it will contribute to the deepening of effective cooperation and will increase its constructive role in the system of international relations.

Republic of Azerbaijan announced its commitment to the principles and goals of the Non-Aligned Movement. Azerbaijan was supported by all members of this movement in the election of non-permanent members of the UN Security Council.
