Baku. Victoria Dementyeva â€“ APA. Jerzy Buzek puts the overhaul of the MEPs’ code of conduct high on the list of his main achievements during his term as president of the European Parliament. Buzek, who will stand down as president after two-and-a-half years when his successor is chosen on Tuesday (17 January) by MEPs in Strasbourg, described last year’s cash-for-influence scandal as one of the â€œvery difficult momentsâ€.

Three candidates were nominated for the European Parliament presidency: Nirj Deva (European Conservatives and Reformists), Dianna Wallis (Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe) and Martin Schulz (Socialists and Democrats).
