Azerbaijani FM: â€œAzerbaijan expressed fully support to the Somaliaâ€™s transitional federal governmentâ€

New York. Isabel Levine â€“ APA. Azerbaijan expressed fully support to the Somaliaâ€™s transitional federal government, FM Elmar Mammadyarov announced in New York on January 11th, APAâ€™s correspondent reports from the Security Council meeting.

The SC called for predictable, reliable and timely resources to support the African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia to strengthen its capability to help the countryâ€™s transitional government implement its commitments to restore peace and stability.

The Council also expressed its readiness to support action against spoilers who seek to undermine the peace process in Somalia.

In his speech, Minister Mammadyarov also supported the African Union mission to this country in their efforts to overcome difficulties and to build â€œa secure, stable, united, democratic nationâ€.

Azeri FM also stressed the efforts of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and its member states in contributing to achieving peace and national reconciliation in Somalia and mobilizing assistance for urgent needs of the people affected by humanitarian crisis in this country.

â€œWe must continue to approach the conflict situation in Somalia with care and sensitivity on the basis of comprehensive strategy aimed and addressing the political, humanitarian and security problems in Somalia through the collaborative efforts of all statesâ€, he said adding, "It is obvious that security gains canâ€™t be consolidated
without adequate assistance from the international community, including for providing all necessary resources to strengthen the missions keep ability to contribute implement of roadmapâ€.

Minister said, our country agrees and confirms that humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate in Somalia.

In his briefing, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affair B. Lynn Pascoe urged the international community to provide the TFG with the means it needs to become more cohesive and inclusive, while strengthening its ability to deal with the security challenges, carry out reconstruction and collect revenue.

â€œIrrespective of the structure of the State to be defined by the constitution, it is vital that Somalis have a national security sector,â€ he said.
