Baku. Viktoria Dementyeva - APA. “Finland grasps the gravity of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, this conflict has impact on the entire region,” head of Finland’s delegation to OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Ilkka Kanerva said in Azerbaijan, APA reports.

The parliamentarian said the international community does not grasp the gravity of the conflict, therefore, the international community should be actively informed about it.

“The international community can contribute to the resolution of the conflict, because OSCE Minsk Group’s efforts have not produced results. The resolution of this problem should not be restricted to the format of the Minsk Group, the international community should be largely involved in the resolution of the conflict, should have more detailed information about the conflict,” he said.

Ilkka Kanerva noted that solution to the conflict is possible only by peaceful way. He didn’t rule out the use of other platforms to support the peace process. “The conflict has existed for 20 years and it was impossible to solve it. The use of other communication platforms could support the negotiation process and assist the solution to the conflict”.

The head of the Finnish delegation thanked MP Elkhan Suleymanov for organizing this visit. He said they discussed the development of Azerbaijani-Finnish inter-parliamentary relations and international problems: “We asked Azerbaijan to support Finland in the election of non-permanent members of the UN Security Council in autumn”. Ilkka Kanerva noted that the parliaments of both countries advocated for continuation of intensive cooperation in both bilateral format and international institutions. He said his country was interested in the development of relationship with Azerbaijan.

Today the Finnish delegation will visit the IDP settlement in Aghdam. “This visit is organized at our request. We intend to assess the situation on site. The problem of internally displaced persons is one of the most painful consequences of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict”.
