UN Security Council publicizes issues to be discussed in January

The UN Security Council will hold five briefings, 11 closed consultations and three formal debates in January, with participation of all SC members, including Azerbaijan, covering the Middle East, justice and the rule of law, APA’s correspondent reports from New York.

On January 4, the SC President Baso Sangqu, ambassador of South Africa, outlined the key events of the SC work program at a press conference, after welcoming the new Council members, including Azerbaijan.
He said one of the first topics of the Council is South Sudan conflict, and the SC will discuss it on January 5th that how the conflict could respond.

On 10 of January, the Council would hear a briefing on Syria. Then Council will also hold a public meeting on Somalia.
The Security Council will hold an open debate later this month on strengthening strategic cooperation between the United Nations and regional organizations, with President calling for closer ties to help deal with common issues such as conflict resolution.
