Washington. Isabel Levine – APA. Dozens of UN member countries, including Russia, US and others officially welcomed Azerbaijan’s non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council, for the first time in its history, APA US correspondent reports from New York.
As the New Year dawned Sunday in New York, Azerbaijan and four other countries - Morocco, Guatemala, Pakistan, Togo began their two year term at the SC, a position described as the most important in the world.
The SC will gather on January 4, for the first time of the year, APA was informed by the UN News Center.
Syrian uprising and Iran’s nuclear problems are the main priority topics of the SC, in the near future.
Azerbaijan earlier assured its supporters at the UN that it would play a constructive role in resolving key global issues.
