Elmar Mammadyarov: “We don’t interfere in Moscow’s relations with its outpostâ€

Baku – APA. “As things go, the Gabala Radar Station has a very great strategic importance, and as a strategic object, it must find the adequate assessmentâ€, said Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov in his interview to “Interfaxâ€. Commenting on the review of lease terms of Gabala Radar Station by Russia, the minister said that in any case, it was necessary to extend the document on lease of the station or revise it in accordance with the existing agreement on the Gabala radar station. “That is, life itself pushes us to reconsider the terms of the contract". Mammadyarov said that the negotiations were being held on the new lease terms: “Yes, negotiations are underway. May be it is not intensive but the issue is being discussedâ€.
The minister also commented the prolongation of tenure of Russian military base in Armenia: “We do not interfere “in Moscow’s relations with its outpost. Therefore, it is up to Russia to decide how to strengthens and keep its outpost. We have quite high military-political cooperation with Russia, too. I do not think that the Russian military base in Gyumri will take some anti-Azerbaijani actions that are contrary to the level of relations between Azerbaijan and Russiaâ€.
