Greek expert: Greece sees Azerbaijan as one of the guarantors of energy security

Characterizing Azerbaijan as an important energy player in the region, Director General said the Black Sea countries and the European Union are interested in the shipment of the rich resources of the Caspian Sea to the West.
He said Azerbaijan is seeking customers for its gas, Greece and other European countries want to realize energy supply through several sources and suppliers.
“Now European countries are trying to diversify their energy sources in order not to depend on one supplier. In this respect Greece sees Azerbaijan as one of the guarantors of energy security,” she said.

Calling Azerbaijan a new and rapidly developing country Director General said the country is turning into a state playing an important role in the broad Black Sea region.
To the question “Does Greece being in the deep economic crisis have opportunities to buy Azerbaijan’s natural gas?” Zefi Dimadama said that the authorities of Greece with the help of the European Union are taking measures to cope with the crisis and the day is not far off when these problems will be solved.
She noted that like every state Greece has its priorities and one of them is energy security.

Director General said the goal of every state is to realize the priorities despite financial and other problems.
“In this regard we should find new sources and routes of natural gas. Competitive price
and other facts are not important for us. The most important thing is Azerbaijan’s reliable partnership in energy security,” he said.
