EU-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee holds meeting

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA. The EU-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee finished its 11th meeting in Baku, said Co-Chair of the Committee from Azerbaijan, Vice Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Valeh Aleskerov at the press conference following the meeting, APA reports.

Aleskerov said they mentioned wide range of cooperation issues and discussed the economic and social reforms, solution of the Karabakh problem, combating the organized crime, human trafficking, illicit drug traffic, money laundering and etc.

“There were constructive discussions. As a result of the discussions, we made decisions on our future activity. Azerbaijan asked to hold the meetings not annually, but more intensively. We are looking forward for cooperation in the field of lawmaking”, said the vice speaker.

Speaking on behalf of the European Union, Milan Cabrnoch said the last meeting was held in 2009 and many novelties followed that meeting. Azerbaijan held parliamentary elections and the Euronest Assembly was established. “We highly appreciate the dynamic and rapid development in Azerbaijan”, said Cabrnoch.

He said the delegation consists of representatives of all leading parties of the European Parliament. Cabrnoch said they discussed the human rights issues. “We welcomed Eynulla Fatullayev release and we also had discussions over the last resolution of the European Parliament about Azerbaijan. We learned the opinion of Azerbaijan concerning this resolution. We prefer security and diversification in this sphere”.

Cabrnoch said the European Parliament gave great importance to the associative agreement between the European Union and Azerbaijan.
