MevlÃ¼t Ã‡avuÅŸoÄŸlu: It is not the initiative of PACE President of Turkish origin to resume the activity of the Subcommittee on Nagorno Karabakh

Strasbourg. Fuad Gulubeyli â€“ APA. â€œPACE adopted a lot of recommendations, resolutions and reports concerning Nagorno Karabakh conflict. One should know that we are resolute in the application of the recommendations and resolutions adopted by PACE. PACE adopted a resolution on Nagorno Karabakh in 2005, it was clearly pointed out that PACE bureau is to establish a Subcommittee on Nagorno Karabakh,â€ President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) MevlÃ¼t Ã‡avuÅŸoÄŸlu said at the press conference in Strasbourg while answering the questions of the Armenian journalists about the activity of the Subcommittee on Nagorno Karabakh, APAâ€™s Europe bureau reports.

MevlÃ¼t Ã‡avuÅŸoÄŸlu noted that in January, 2011, PACE Bureau passed a decision to resume the Subcommitteeâ€™s activity.
â€œAfter the death of former chairman of the Subcommittee Russel-Johnston, my duty as president of PACE was to include this issue into the agenda of the Bureau and the bureau decided to resume the Subcommitteeâ€™s activity with the majority of votes, its chairman was elected. All political groups participated in the appointment of the chairman of the Subcommittee. This Subcommittee will mainly deal with the humanitarian sides of the issue and make efforts to strengthen the dialogue between the delegations of the two countries in the organization. PACE has no bad intention in this issue. PACE does not intend to impede the activity of OSCE Minsk Group or the agreement that will be signed between the two presidents. It is not the initiative of PACE President of Turkish origin to resume the Subcommitteeâ€™s activity. Irrespective of the nationality, each PACE President has an obligation to include this issue into the agenda of the bureau,â€ he said.

Though the Subcommittee has been resumed, Armenian parliamentarians refuse to participate in its activity.
