Deputy Prime Minister said the first paragraph of the order issued by the national leader Heydar Aliyev in 2001 concerning the construction of settlement for refugees from Armenia says â€œRefugees from Armenia preserve their political status, status of refugeeâ€.
â€œThis status, their right to return to these territories is preserved. After the internal territories are released, this issue will be discussed in the next stage. Azerbaijan can never abandon these territories. These are the lands of our ancestors. Armenians created their state there and drove out our people. But these territories belong to Azerbaijan. Though we do not have claims for these territories as independent Azerbaijani lands, we will demand that our people live there,â€ he said.
