Azerbaijani Foreign Minister: â€œI told Grigol Vashadze that the establishment of Georgian Muslims Board can have unpleasant resultsâ€

There have not been differences between Sunnite and Shiite Azerbaijanis in Georgia so far. All of them prayed and performed Namaz at the same mosque. It is terrible that today several government officials organized the NGO entitled â€œGeorgian Muslims Boardâ€. The religious issues of Georgian Azerbaijanis were privatized. They organized a private organization. It means that they try to isolate the people from Azerbaijan and Caucasian Muslims Board. The Georgian Azerbaijanis have close ties with the Caucasian Muslims Board. Georgia has not adopted a law on Religion. If any public official establishes NGO and elects mufti, imam and sheikh managing my religion and dividing it into Sunnites and Shiites, we, being the Muslims, donâ€™t adopt itâ€.

Asgarov made remarks to CMB: â€œI couldnâ€™t meet with board chiefs for the discussion of this issue. They do nothing for us. Neither state organizations nor Caucasian Muslim Board responded to our appealsâ€.

Mammadyarov said that the religion was an important issue and he discussed this issue with his counterpart Grigol Vashadze: â€œI told to my counterpart that this issue can have unpleasant results because the religion is very delicate issue. Everybody has own choice. But I notice again that this issue is being discussed. We agreed to discuss this issue. People want to have one religious board. I got your message. I will try to discuss this issue with the Georgian government officialsâ€.
