ENP country report on Azerbaijan released

According to APA, Head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan Roland Kobia presented the report in his press conference.

The document reports that overall, Azerbaijan made some progress in implementing the ENP AP, in particular in the area of macro-economic stability and efforts to address poverty and attain socio-economic equilibrium. Good progress was made in the field of energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and EU, said the document.

“Following the adoption of negotiating directives for an Association Agreement
(AA), the negotiations were launched in July 2010 in Baku and have made good progress during the reporting period”, the document reports. “Azerbaijan has launched an anti-corruption campaign in early 2011 and will need to continue efforts in this context. Progress was also made on gender equality with the adoption of a law on domestic violence”.

The reports said that no significant changes were made in the field of democracy, protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms. No progress has been made in the negotiations on Azerbaijan’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), said Kobia and added that Azerbaijan needs in WTO membership to join the European Free Trade Area.

The report supports the negotiations towards the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
