Azerbaijan becomes full member of Non-Aligned Movement

APA reports that the decision was made at the 16th Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement in Bali, Indonesia. Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov made a speech at the conference. Several more documents, including the declaration on Palestine and Palestinian political prisoners, document on the reduction of nuclear weapons will be adopted at the end of the conference.

The Non-Aligned Movement was founded in Belgrade in 1961. It has 120 members. The main aim of the member states is to abstain from the big power military alliances and pacts. Azerbaijan has been observer in the organization up to date. From CIS countries Belarus, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Ukraine have observer status.
