Ogtay Asadov expresses concern on resolution about Azerbaijan to President of European Parliament

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov â€“ APA. Speaker of the Parliament Ogtay Asadov met with President of the European Parliament (EP) Jerzy Buzek, who is on official visit to Azerbaijan, APA reports. Asadov said that the relations with the European Union were very important for Azerbaijan. Noting the implement of several projects in the last period, the speaker underlined the existence of close relations between Azerbaijan and EU. The speaker noted that there is a need to revive the relations. Noting European Parliaments great attention to Azerbaijan and region, Asadov said that the resolution on Azerbaijan, which was adopted one year ago, will contribute to the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

Speaking about the resolution on Azerbaijan adopted by the EP on May 12, Asadov said: â€œThe reasons of this incident were not clear to us till the end. Azerbaijan voluntarily chose the way of democratic development. 1/3 of Countryâ€™s Constitution covers the human rights. Azerbaijan declared its independence 20 years ago. There can be such issues that we havenâ€™t settled them fully. But we consider preconceived the adoption of such a resolution about the country without Azerbaijanâ€™s participationâ€.

The speaker said that they supported the activization of further cooperation within the â€œEuronestâ€ Parliamentary Assembly.

In his speech, Buzek noted Azerbaijanâ€™s rich history and its importance for Europe. He said that within the visit he will discuss the cooperation issue and exchange view with Azerbaijani officials.

President of the European Parliament congratulated Azerbaijan on the victory in â€œEurovisionâ€ song contest.

Then the meeting was continued without journalistsâ€™ participation.
