Foreign Ministry warns citizens of Azerbaijan against travel to Syria

The warning posted on the ministry’s website says that anti-government protests began in a number of cities of Syria from March 18. Clashes occurred between the protesters and government forces, a lot of people were killed and injured as the Syrian security forces dispersed the demonstrations.

The demonstrations are held at the university buildings, main streets, mosques and other large public places. A number of roads such as Tartous-Latakia, Lattakia-Aleppo, Homs-Aleppo are temporarily closed. The number of the inspection stations in most cities, including Syria’s capital Damascus has been increased. Conflict zones can change in Syria at any moment.

Taking this into account, the citizens of Azerbaijan planning to travel to Syria are recommended to be cautious, postpone their travels, if they are not so important, the Azerbaijanis permanently and temporarily residing in Syria are recommended to avoid unrests, to carry ID cards, obey the rules declared in the country and contact the embassy of Azerbaijan in Damascus in case of any problem.
