He said the sides were on the verge of consensus on security, environment, as well as joint protection of the resources of the Caspian Sea.

Ambassador-at-large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Golovin reminded that the next meeting of the Caspian littoral states’ leaders will take place in Moscow and weighty documents should be elaborated until this summit.

Representative of the Iranian President on Caspian issues Mohammad Mehdi Akhundzadeh noted that “the presidents expect more good results from our work now”. The Iranian official said the heads of states look forward to convention on Caspian legal status elaborated by the end of the year.

Kazakh and Turkmen officials highly appreciated the decisions of the last Baku summit and said fruitfulness of the next summit would depend on the activity of the working group.

Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Sarbay Kayrat proposed to hold the next meeting of the working group in Kazakhstan for elaboration of the convention on Caspian legal status. Russian representative Alexander Golovin said the working group should meet in Moscow duet to the presidents’ meeting there. The officials promised to make serious efforts to end the work on the convention until the Moscow summit.

The working group of Azerbaijani, Russian, Kazakh, Iranian and Turkmen officials gathered in Baku on Tuesday to coordinate the work on elaboration of the convention on Caspian legal status and fulfillment of the decisions adopted at the presidents’ meeting in Baku.
