Ago group members meet with human rights defenders and lawyers

Baku. Mammadli â€“ APA. Azerbaijani human rights defenders and lawyers met with the members of Ago monitoring group of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers. Chief of Azerbaijan Committee against Torture Elchin Behbudov told APA that the human rights defenders and lawyers informed the group members about the arrest of the bloggers, imprisoned journalists, situation in courts and human rights.
â€œWe said that courts do not have authority to pass decisions independently,â€ he said.
The group members were told that the imprisoned persons undergo torture, some laws do not work and editor-in-chief of the Tolishi Sedo newspaper died in prison. According to Behbudov, the group members said they will focus attention on the issues.

Human rights defenders Leyla Yunus, Elchin Behbudov, Eldar Zeynalov, Arzu Abdullayeva, lawyers Irada Javadova, Aslan Ismayilov and Fuad Agayev attended the meeting.
