Baku. Victoria Dementyeva – APA. “Thousands of planes are flying to Afghanistan via Azerbaijan. All NATO countries have an opportunity to receive permission to conduct flights to Afghanistan via Azerbaijan. Baku gives one-year permission to some countries to conduct such flights. There are no problems in this issue”, said Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Araz Azimov speaking about the AP’s report on non-permission of air corridor for NATO shipment from Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.

The Deputy Minister said Azerbaijan and NATO were negotiating the deployment of AWACS to Afghanistan via Azerbaijan, but Azerbaijan has not responded NATO’s demand yet because there is a need in permission by all countries offering air corridor for deployment of such kind of planes. “NATO is negotiating AWACS deployment to Afghanistan with us, but Azerbaijan has not given negative response. This issue does not depend on Azerbaijan only. This issue should be coordinated with all countries on route, from Turkey to Afghanistan, including Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan as well”.
