Araz Azimov goes into details about Bakuâ€™s expectation from upcoming meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents

Answering the question â€œwhat does Azerbaijan expect from this meetingâ€, the deputy minister said: â€œFirst, fundamental and detailed discussions, second, we expect changes in the position of opposite sideâ€.

Azimov said if there was no change, it would be impossible to talk about the development. â€œAzerbaijan has clear position. We want to solve the problems within territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. We are always explaining and substantiating our position. International community wholly supports our position, which based on the norms and principles of international law. There is no ulterior motive in the Azerbaijanâ€™s position against the opposite side. Just these issues are on agenda of the meetingâ€.

The deputy minister said Azerbaijanâ€™s position consisted of solution of Karabakh problem within the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, returning of population to homeland, restoration of normal living conditions for them and determination of status in more suitable situation in future. â€œThe opposite side says it supports peaceful solution to the conflict, but we donâ€™t see its position in accordance with the norms and principles of international law. We see their position developing in contrary direction. If Armenia refuses all proposed options after the co-chairsâ€™ long-year efforts, meetings and actions for hopeful development and if it prefers to violate territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and to separate a part of its lands, I think, Armenia takes contrary position. Therefore, as I mentioned earlier, Armenia must change its positionâ€.

Azerbaijan gives a place to compromises in its position, said Azimov and added that Azerbaijan stands in the middle of bridge and expects the opposite side will also come to this point: â€œIf Armenia is ready to discuss compromise within the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, we are also ready to develop this discussionâ€.
