Ankara. Mayis Alizadeh – APA. “The measures taken to abolish visa travel between Turkey and Azerbaijan are on the final stage,” diplomatic source in Ankara told APA’s Turkey bureau. According to the source, the work done to abolish visa travel between the two brotherly countries is about to end under the instruction of Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu. Visa-free travel will comprise all principles of “one nation, two states”.

To APA’s question “The main problem concerning the visa travel is that the citizens can not stay in the other country more than a month. Will this term be prolonged?”, the source said technical activities are continuing, nothing is known about the concrete term.

On July 30, 2007, the then Foreign Minister of Turkey Abdullah Gul gave instruction to abolish visa travel for Azerbaijanis. Before, the citizens of the two countries had paid $20 on border checkpoints to stay in Turkey and Azerbaijan for two months, though according to the new regime they did not pay money on the border, reduction of the stay period by one month caused great problems.

According to the contract signed between Turkey and Georgia, the citizens of the two countries can stay in the country for three months without permission. Russians can stay in Turkey for two months after paying $20 on border checkpoints of Turkey.
