 Baku hosts International conference “Inter-Civilizational Dialogue: Insight from Azerbaijan” on OIC 40 years anniversary

The conference was organized by OIC and Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy (ADA), APA reports. Addressing the conference, ADA rector Hafiz Pashayev said the conference was held with the goal of peace in the world. Pashayev called OIC the world’s second largest international organization after UN and said Azerbaijan achieved many things by its membership to this organization.

Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Office (CMO), Sheikh-al-Islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh said unique model of Azerbaijan formed of humanist Islamic values and rich national traditions could be a valuable pattern for contemporary world. CMO chairman especially underlined the activity of Heydar Aliyev Foundation on this issue.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov talked about the way OIC passed and its work done in 40 years. The minister said OIC summits and meetings made statements on violation of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and supported Azerbaijan’s fair case. Mammadyarov said Azerbaijan put forward an initiative to hold OIC summit in 2014 in Baku.

OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said Azerbaijan became a symbol of cooperation between the great civilizations. He said it related to the geographic space of Azerbaijan and crossing of different cultures here. Ihsanoglu talked about the history of the organization and said OIC had 57 member countries, 4 observer members and the organization covered more than one billion Muslim population in the world.
