Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov pays working visit to United Mexican States

Baku. Lachin Sultanova – APA. Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov paid a working visit to the United Mexican States. Press service of Azerbaijani embassy in the United Mexican States told APA that Deputy Minister met with Pablo Macedo, Director General of the United Nations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico and Mexican Deputy Foreign Minister Maria de Lourdes Aranda. The sides discussed bilateral relations, regional security, transnational crimes, combating illicit drug turnover and human trafficking, exchange of information, cooperation in energy and non-oil sector, as well as within the framework of the UN and other international organizations. They noted that the political relations are developing successfully and underlined the importance of extending the cooperation in economy, trade, information technologies, science and education.

Using proper documents and maps Araz Azimov gave detailed information about the history of Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, negotiations on the settlement of the conflict. He said Armenia’s non-constructive position contradicting the norms and principles of the international law impedes the resolution of the conflict and establishment of long-lasting peace in the region.

Deputy Minister said support for Azerbaijan’s position during the discussions in the next meeting of the UN General Assembly on the Resolution on the situation in the occupied Azerbaijani territories is of great importance for our country.

Following this, Araz Azimov delivered a speech on the theme “Azerbaijan and regional security” in the conference hall of the Mexican Foreign Ministry for the heads of the diplomatic offices accredited in Mexico, ambassadors of Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, Serbia and Bulgaria, students of Matías Romero Institute and representatives of Foreign Ministry. He gave information about Azerbaijan’s energy and regional security policy, international cooperation in combating terrorism and illicit drug turnover, Azerbaijan’s economic growth rate, Armenia’s lasting aggressive policy, negotiations on the settlement of the conflict and Azerbaijan’s position. Ambassador Ilgar Mukhtarov and rector of Matías Romero Institute María Celia Toro Hernández also attended the meeting.

Official inauguration was held in the embassy in connection with the opening of Azerbaijan’s embassy in the United Mexican States, the first embassy of Azerbaijan in Latin America.

Mexican Deputy Foreign Minister Maria de Lourdes Aranda, officials of Mexican Foreign Ministry and government agencies, heads of the diplomatic offices accredited in Mexico, representatives of Azerbaijani, Turkish, Ukrainian and Russian Diaspora organizations attended the ceremony.
