Akhundov National Library of Azerbaijan and Germany’s embassy in Baku organized a literature exhibition “Lev Nissenbaum, Asad Bey, Gurban Said: Who is an author of “Ali and Nino”. According to APA, director of the National Library Karim Tahirov talked about “Ali and Nino”, the novel by Mahammad Asad Bey, one of the representatives of Azerbaijani immigrant literature. Then German ambassador Per Stanchina addressed the ceremony. He said “Ali and Nino” was published in German language for the first time in Vienna in 1937 by E.P. Tal Verlag and for long time it was presented as a novel written by Austrian baroness Elfrida von Ehrenfels Bodmershot and then American orientalist Tom Reis said that he found weighty facts that the novel was written by Azerbaijan’s Jewish writer Lev Nissenbaum.

Professor Hasan Guliyev said “Ali and Nino” accepted by many people as a love story, but it covered historic events such as Russian revolution, establishing of independent and democratic Azerbaijan Republic, Red Army’s invasion in Baku and other periods.

Chairman of German-Azerbaijan Friendship Society Chingiz Abdullayev called it readable book and won large group of readers and was translated to 27 languages.

More than 70 photos, archive materials describing Gurban Said’s life and creative work were exhibited at the National library. The photos were collected by Tom Reis.

Following the opening ceremony, German writer-scientist Jasmine Boeling gave a lecture about Gurban Said.
