U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Tina Kaidanow meets with heads of NGOs

Baku. Elnur Mammadli – APA. U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Tina Kaidanow, who is visiting Azerbaijan, met with heads of a group of nongovernmental organizations. Head of Azerbaijan bureau of Helsinki Citizens Assembly Arzu Abdullayeva told APA that the aim of Tina Kaidanow’s visit is to familiarize with Azerbaijan. The representatives of NGOs informed Tina Kaidanow about the state of media, freedom of speech, human rights, democratic processes in Azerbaijan, Karabakh conflict, Turkey-Armenia relations, arrest of Adnan Hajizadeh and Emin Milli, authorities-society relations. NGO representatives held discussions on the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict and said all in Azerbaijan have unique position concerning this issue – they support solution to the conflict within the framework of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity basing on the norms of the international law. Asked whether Karabakh and Kosovo conflicts are similar, Tina Kaidanow, who once was ambassador to Kosovo, said there is no similarity between these conflicts. The local elections to be held on December 23 were also discussed at the meeting.

Arzu Abdullayeva, political analysts Rasim Musabayov, Hikmat Hajizadeh, Ilgar Mammadov, chairman of the Youth Platform Orkhan Gafarli, head of the Institute of Freedom and Security of Reporters Emin Huseynli attended the meeting.
