Event entitled “European Geopolitics of Energy and the Role of Azerbaijan” held in UK parliament

London – APA. Event entitled “European Geopolitics of Energy and the Role of Azerbaijan” was held in the UK parliament on the occasion of the establishment of UK Azeris Network (UKAN), Azerbaijani embassy in the United Kingdom told APA. The event was supported by the embassy. The members of the House of Lords and House of Commons, representatives of state bodies, leading experts on energy, journalists, the members of the Azerbaijani and Turkish communities living in London attended the event. Making a keynote speech at the event co-founder of UKAN Gulchohra Aliyeva spoke about the goals of the organization and noted that the UKAN will bring the British Azerbaijanis much closer and protect our country’s rights. Ambassador Fakhraddin Gurbanov wished success to the new organization and said the Diaspora organizations play special role in informing the British public about Azerbaijan’s realities. The ambassador noted Azerbaijan’s growing role in the world energy market and said the country is recognized as a reliable partner.

Following this, parliamentarian Alan Whitehead, co-founder of UKAN Fiyaz Mugal, director of London office of SOCAR Rufat Efendiyev, professor of Birmingham University Jeremy Smith and professor of London University Bhavna Dave discussed the history of oil industry in Azerbaijan, the country’s role in ensuring Europe’s energy security, the growing importance of the Caspian basin and particularly Azerbaijan in the world energy policy.
