Baku. Zaur Hasanov – APA. Azerbaijani Consul General in Los Angeles Elin Suleymanov sent a letter to The Washington Post editor-in-chief relating some ideas in the news story "Armenia, Turkey Reach Accord; Swiss Broker New Diplomatic Ties" published by the newspaper on October 11. “The real challenge to the region’s future remains unresolved: the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, which led to the occupation of internationally recognized Azerbaijani territories by Armenia and caused Turkey to close its border with Armenia. If there is no tangible progress in this conflict, both Turkish-Armenian rapprochement and stability in the South Caucasus are likely to become more fragile. Without a resolution, any talk about new energy export routes sounds premature”, said the diplomat.

The Washington Post said quoting the U.S. officials that the Turkish-Armenian accord may ease tensions in other parts of southeastern Europe and provide new opportunities for oil pipelines to the West.
