Baku. Victoria Dementyeva – APA. “The Baku conference is significant hat such events play important role in the forming of relations between the European countries and the Islamic world”, Robert Palmer, Director of Culture and Cultural and Natural Heritage of the Council of Europe told APA. He reminded about the similar conference in Baku organized by the Council of Europe last year. Palmer said the Council of Europe was waiting for the decision of Azerbaijan and Armenia on the fact-finding mission for monitoring of cultural, historic and religious monuments in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. “Only after that we can realize the mission technically. It is within our action program and we desire it. But we can schedule the visit only after the coordinating it with the parties”.

Robert Palmer said the Council of Europe strongly condemned the destruction of monuments and spiritual-material heritage. “The Council of Europe condemns the destruction of heritages in any territory. We have serious position on that issue and we are developing the dialogue with the governments of Azerbaijan and Armenia for the organizing of the technical visit to the region. The dialogue is held with the foreign ministers of both countries. I hope that the government of Azerbaijan will continue the cooperation with us. I hope that the planning visit for learning of damages on the monuments will be realized next year”.
