Armenian opposition concerns over agreements with Turkey

Former foreign minister and member of the Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s Armenian National Congress Alexander Arzumanyan said they specially concerned over the article about the establishing of subcommittee to research historical issues. He said it was unacceptable to establish such commission to research 1915 events. Arzumanyan said article about ratification of the documents at the parliament was also strange because it contradicted to the international experience. “The protocol about the establishing of diplomatic ties doesn’t need in the parliamentary ratification”.

Oppositional Heritage Party’s member Stepan Safaryan stated that Turkey achieved to include all its three conditions concerning the re-opening borders with Armenia in the documents. He said the documents showed that Armenia de-facto recognized Kars treaty as the first condition and de-jure agreed with the condition that the issues of “Armenian genocide” is handed over to the history researchers. “It means that Armenian side reconciled with the results of genocide and left its demand for compensation and critiques against Turkey”. Safaryan said Ankara’s third condition related to Nagorno Karabakh was also included in the protocols. The sides undertake to show tolerance and to prevent violence and radicalism.

“Armenian Volunteers” national-political initiative unity called the agreements as a betrayal by criminal Serzh Sargsyan’s government and called on the world Armenians to resist the signing of the agreements.
