The share of gold in the investment portfolio of the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) exceeded 26% in the first half of this year, APA-Economics reports.

According to information, the Fund continued to purchase gold in the second quarter of the year. In parallel, the high price of gold in global markets also affected its high share in the Fund's assets.

Note that according to the SOFAZ Investment Policy, up to 25 percent of the total value of the investment portfolio can be invested in gold, with an upper deviation interval of a maximum of 4 percent. In other words, the share of gold in the portfolio may increase to 29% against the background of price changes.

Recall that during the first quarter of 2025, the Fund's gold portfolio increased and amounted to 165.3 tons as of March 31, 2025. The statement from the Fund stated that the gold portfolio would be brought to the maximum level. This was justified by the fact that gold is considered a reliable investment instrument that maintains its value in the long term, as well as an asset type that is an effective defense mechanism against inflation risk, and that increasing gold reserves against the backdrop of geopolitical tensions and instability in global markets is of strategic importance in terms of diversifying foreign exchange reserves and reducing risks.
