The chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will pass to Uzbekistan in 2027 and Azerbaijan in 2028, APA's correspondent dispatched to Turkmenistan reports.
Currently, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan form the CIS chairmanship troika.
Azerbaijan will chair the CIS for the first time since restoring its independence. In previous years, the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict was one of the main factors preventing the country from assuming this role.
Thus, Azerbaijan will become a country exercising chairmanship functions within the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia, the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), and the CIS.
In addition, Azerbaijan will assume the chairmanship of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in 2027, and the organization's summit will be held in the country.
Azerbaijan will also host the European Political Community Summit in 2028.
