The restoration and reconstruction work carried out in Azerbaijan's territories liberated from occupation in a short period of time is making a great impression, Necdet Ünüvar, Rector of Ankara University and professor, who is participating in the 4th International Conference held within the framework of the "Baku Dialogue" on missing persons, told journalists in Khojaly, APA reports.
Ünüvar noted that he had lived with the pain of the Khojaly tragedy for many years and had always kept the Khojaly issue on the agenda during his tenure as head of the Türkiye-Azerbaijan Friendship Group in the Turkish Parliament.
"For many years, we lived with the pain of Khojaly. We always wished for the liberation of Karabakh. Thankfully, our wishes have now come true, Karabakh has regained its freedom, and we are in Khojaly, which we once only dreamed of. Here, we are visiting the places where the spirits of our martyrs roam. We have always commemorated February 26 as a day of mourning, and it will always remain so," the professor emphasized.
Recalling his previous visit to Karabakh, Ünüvar said he was amazed by the changes that had taken place in the region since then. He noted that when the Shusha Declaration was signed, it took them approximately six and a half hours to travel from Baku to Shusha by car, while this time they arrived in Fuzuli by plane and then traveled to Khojaly by car.
"I have witnessed that Azerbaijan is managing to heal the wounds of many years in a short period of time. This makes us very happy," Ünüvar added.
