Azerbaijan's direct investments abroad approach $5 billion

In the first six months of 2026, the volume of Azerbaijan's direct investments abroad amounted to approximately $5 billion, Samir Nasirov, Director of the Statistics Department of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, stated at a briefing dedicated to the release of the balance of payments, APA-Economics reports.

According to him, this was one of the main factors behind the deficit in the capital and financial account. During the reporting period, a net deficit of $4 billion was recorded under the foreign direct investment item.

Samir Nasirov noted that Italy, Türkiye, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, and Georgia were among the main destinations for direct investments abroad.

He said that the volume of foreign direct investments made in the country during the reporting period amounted to $3.6 billion.

The United Kingdom, Türkiye, China, Russia, and Iran were among the main investor countries in terms of foreign direct investments received by the country.

The Central Bank official added that $3.8 billion was repatriated from direct investments abroad. The bulk of these funds was related to the raw materials and natural gas sectors.
