A support event has been held in Baku for the Kanaky–New Caledonia and French Polynesia (Maʻohi Nui–Tahiti) teams participating in the FIFA U-15 World Championship and Festival, APA reports.
On October 25, supporters of both teams gathered outside the Athletes’ Village to greet the young footballers as they departed for their matches.
Participants expressed support for the teams while demonstrating their attachment to their national identities, cultures and traditions.
The event highlighted solidarity among Pacific peoples and the importance of young athletes representing their peoples at international competitions.
The Baku Initiative Group had previously welcomed both teams’ visits to Azerbaijan, saying football helps strengthen friendship between peoples and develop cultural ties.
Teams from 189 football associations are expected to participate in the FIFA U-15 World Championship and Festival, taking place in Baku from October 22 to 30.
