Number of plastic cards increases by 8% in Azerbaijan

Baku. Vahab Rzayev â€“ APA-Economics. As of December 1, 2011, the total number of plastic cards in Azerbaijan made 4,535,000 units, up 329,000 or 7.8% compared to a previous year. The Central Bank of Azerbaijan says 2,534,000 of the cards are mini social, 1,313,000 â€“ salary, 521,000 - debit, 166,000 â€“ credit cards.

Within 11 months of last year 45,885,000 operations were conducted on plastic cards, the volume of transactions amounted to AZN 6,459 mln. Over the last year these figures increased by 11.2% and 21.8% respectively.

The number of debit card transactions was 43,339,000, representing 94.5% of the total. The volume of transactions on debit cards made AZN 5,760 mln, which equals 89.2% of the total. In turn, 2,547,000 operations were conducted via credit cards, the volume of transactions made AZN 699 mln.

The average volume of a single transaction for debit cards amounted to AZN 132.9 this figure makes AZN 274.4 on credit cards.

Note that, 41,224,000 of operations conducted with plastic cards were related to cash withdrawal. The volume of these transactions made AZN 5,840 mln, which is 90.4% of the total.
