Baku hosts ministerial meeting within the framework of U.N. SPECA

Ali Ahmedov – APA-Economics. Today, the ministerial meeting of U.N. Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) on Aid for Trade Initiative has started in Baku.

According to APA-Economics, the representatives of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Finland and other different countries are attending the meeting.

According to Niyazi Safarov, Deputy Minister of Economic Development, tha main purpose of Aid for Trade Initiative is to increase the role of trade in national development. The works are conducted in three directions. These are trade policy and regulation, development of trade infrastructure and increase of production capacity. Bilateral and multilateral donors have granted $ 25.4 bln for these purposes and this will be reached $40 bln in 2010.

Note that, according to report on “Trade and evaluation of needs of human development” the trade limit among the SPECA countries is not desired.

Note that, several regional issues will be discussed at the sessions to be held on the second day of event.
