Chairman of Central Bank meets with delegation of International Monetary Fund

Baku â€“ APA. Chairman of the Central Bank Elman Rustamov met with the delegation led by Nienke Oomes, head of Azerbaijani mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), press service of the Central Bank told APA. Head of the IMF mission said Azerbaijanâ€™s economy withstood the impacts of the global financial crisis, the countryâ€™s official bodies took antirecessionary measures. She also appreciated the antirecessionary activity of the Central Bank.

Chairman of the Central Bank said at the time when the risk of the disturbance of macroeconomic stability increased in the country in the first quarter of 2009, the Central Bank focused its attention on ensuring the stability of the national currency. As a result of it, manat preserved its stability against the background of devaluation in other countries.

The targets of the prospective policy were discussed at the meeting. IMF mission noted that they supported the intention of the Central Bank to keep the currency stable in the near future.
IMF also positively assessed the Central Bankâ€™s plans on consolidation of banks.
