Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA-Economics. Tajikistan expects the country’s gross domestic product to grow by a record 14 percent next year, the president’s press office said in a statement on Monday.

It did not explain what would drive economic growth in the former Soviet state, which has been hit hard by the global financial turmoil this year.

In January-July, Tajikistan’s GDP grew by 3.1 percent compared with an increase of 6.7 percent in the same period of 2008.

According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), economic growth in Tajikistan is set to slow to 2 percent this year from 7.9 percent in 2008 as the global economic crisis will cut remittances and depress exports this year.
