The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has backed this Tuesday the pact sealed with Belgium for the supply of F-16 fighter jets and has emphasized that his goal is to have three fighters before the end of the year, Demócrata reports.
"There is an important agreement with Belgium for the transfer of three F-16 fighter jets before the end of this year," the Ukrainian president stressed in a message on social media, referring to the agreement with Belgium that will transfer its fleet of F-16s to Kiev while awaiting the arrival of new F-35 fighters, a point that precisely puts in jeopardy the timely arrival of the aircraft.
"We will work to receive these aircraft through an accelerated procedure. We have already received urgent deliveries of ammunition for the F-16s from Belgium and other countries, including Spain," he pointed out.
The leader has placed this commitment within the framework of the response to a Russia that "intensifies its attacks every day." "We need to incorporate more capabilities to shoot down aerial targets and protect the population," he indicated, in a message in which he thanks Prime Minister Bart De Wever for his support for Ukraine in the context of the war.
De Wever has defended that Belgium will be "the largest supplier of F-16s to Ukraine" and has promised to make more than 50 aircraft available to Kiev as part of its plan to renew its air fleet. In any case, the deliveries have been delayed as they depend on the arrival at the Belgian hangars of the also American F-35 fighters.
