Employees of the Main Customs Department for Air Transport have prevented a large quantity of diamond stones concealed from customs control from being brought into the country, the State Customs Committee said, APA-Economics reports.
According to the information, a citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan who arrived in the country on a Sharjah-Baku flight attempted to leave the customs control zone through the “Green Channel” clearance system.
As the citizen’s behavior raised suspicion, customs officers directed the passenger to the “Red Channel” and applied customs control procedures.
During the customs inspection, 2,502.524 carats of diamond stones that had not been declared to the customs authorities and had been concealed from customs control were found on the person. The value of the discovered diamond stones was estimated at more than AZN 4 million.
An investigation into the case is underway.
