Addressing the plenary meeting of the Vilnius summit Viktor Yanukovych said Ukraine and EU are on the final stage of the association agreement. “I am sure that this will open a new page in the development of the state of Ukraine, bring our relations with the EU and member states to a new stage. I confirm Ukraine’s intention to sign the association agreement in the near future,” he said.

Viktor Yanukovych mentioned that his country has been holding talks with the EU for more than 6 years and is seeking compromise. President expressed his confidence that the sides will pass the final stage properly.
“We have only few resolute steps to take. The major task is the implementation of the program to bring Ukraine’s economy into conformity with the new realities. Ukraine should not only get ready to implement the association agreement in time, but also get ready to minimize the negative impact of the initial stage on the low-income people.

This requires joint work on the economic assistance program to Ukraine and allow us to get ready to sign the association agreement. I am sure that discrepancy will be eliminated, this will allow signing the agreement and moving towards integration into Europe without serious losses for Ukraine’s economy,” he said.
