Turkey, Norway sign MoU on energy cooperation

Baku-APA. Turkey and Norway signed a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on energy cooperation on Tuesday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

"We very much pay attention to our relations, particularly at energy sector. Norway is very successful especially in alternative energy resources," Turkish President Abdullah Gul said at a joint press conference with visiting Norwegian King Harald V in the Turkish capital of Ankara.

Norway procures 95 percent of its electricity from hydroelectricity and has the richest natural gas reserves of the world, said Gul, noting that there is a potential to cooperate in these areas.

The Turkish president and the Norwegian king also discussed developments in the Middle East andSyria, and decided to increase cooperation on these issues, Gul added.

For his part, King Harald V stressed that the partnership in economy could make easier rapprochement between Norway and Turkey.

Norway works to increase investment in Turkey in the area of marine, said he, adding that "We seek for opportunities in fishing. "

The Norwegian king will meet with representatives of the business community in Istanbul on Thursday on the last day of his visit to Turkey.
