A man was killed by flash foods caused by torrential rain after he managed to get out of his car but was unable to reach safety, in a small town of Marche region in central Italy.
In the nearby city of Pesaro, another elderly man was found dead after being blown off the roof of his factory while checking tiles.
According to reports from ANSA agency, the wave of bad weather caused floods and landslides in several areas. Police evacuated dozens of people from their homes for safety.
Various roads were blocked by heavy rains while high winds delayed flights in Rome's international airport. Ferries between mainland Italy and the ports of Sardinia Island were also delayed.
In the northern city of Bologna, trains were stopped or delayed due to electrical problems created by the storms while power interruptions were reported throughout the country.
Winds blew at speeds up to 125km per hour in the northern city of Trieste.
