Baku-APA.A European Parliament delegate on Monday called on Albania to better combat corruption, organized crime and respect human rights in order the join the currently 28-member bloc, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
"I believe in the European Union (EU) enlargement process, and Albania's EU accession is also significant to the EU itself," said Eduard Kukan, head of the European Parliament (EP) delegation for relations with Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Kosova.
He added the EU "expects from Albania to fight corruption, organized crime and respect human rights."
"The European Parliament will surely support Albania's ambition to win the EU candidate country status," Kukan said.
Albania applied for EU membership in 2009.
