UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is meeting with Jordan's King Abdullah II in London to discuss regional issues and the strategic relationship between the two countries, APA reports referring to Sputnik.
The situation in the Gulf has remained tense following the seizure of an Iranian tanker off Gibraltar in early July and the detention of a British tanker in the Strait of Hormuz a few weeks later. On 5 August, the UK announced that it would join a US-led maritime mission in the Persian Gulf to ensure the safe passage of its vessels in the area.
The King is the first Arab monarch to meet the new UK Prime Minister.
