Germany and the United Kingdom have warned of the growing threat posed by Russian and Chinese space satellites, which have been regularly spotted spying on satellites used by Western powers, APA reports, citing CNN.
The countries have in recent weeks highlighted frequent instances of Russia stalking, jamming and interfering with their satellites in space.
According to the report, two Russian intelligence satellites were recently detected tracking two IntelSat satellites used by the German Armed Forces and their allies.
Making a statement on this, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that Russia's activities in space have become a major source of threat for them.
"Russia and China have rapidly expanded their space warfare capabilities in recent years: they have the ability to jam, damage, manipulate or physically destroy satellites," Pistorius added. He announced that billions of euros in additional funding would be allocated to Germany's space programs.
The head of the UK Space Command, Paul Tedman, also warned that Russian satellites are tracking British satellites and jamming their signals on an almost "weekly" basis.
