Cuba will be on a path toward fundamental change by the end of US President Donald Trump's administration in January 2029, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said.
"I'm confident that by the time this administration is over, Cuba will be on a path toward a very different future," Rubio said on Katie Miller's podcast released on August 11.
The US Secretary of State did not provide details about the changes he expects to take place in Cuba. He pointed to Poland as an example of a country that underwent a major political transformation.
"It took three to five years for the countries of Eastern Europe to become the countries we know today. Poland is probably the best example of that. I think Cuba will get on that path as well," Rubio said.
According to Rubio, Washington wants Cuba to be "safe, stable and in harmony" with the United States, adding that such an outcome would serve US national interests.
