Ukraine has presented the United States with its proposals for a plan to end the war, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his evening video address.
“We have presented our proposals to the American side. The United States can help, first and foremost, by strengthening our defence, particularly our air defence, and by putting pressure on Russia to change its plans — to prepare to end the war rather than continue it,” Zelensky said, according to UNIAN.
The Ukrainian president also claimed that Russia could use the parliamentary elections scheduled for September as a pretext to announce a new mobilisation campaign.
According to him, Ukrainian intelligence has evidence that Russia is preparing for mobilisation in the autumn.
“They are preparing for mobilisation in the autumn, immediately after staging the imitation of parliamentary elections. After the so-called elections, Putin plans to rapidly mobilise several hundred thousand Russians by the end of this year and a similar number next year,” Zelensky said.
He added that Moscow intended to use the campaign to create the impression that Russian society supported the war.
Zelensky said the mobilisation would be conducted alongside the recruitment of contract soldiers into the Russian armed forces.
